KYC Verification for Virtual Card Creation: National ID Requirements.

Edited

Why is this important?

When creating a virtual card for a customer on Bitnob, you must provide the identity information required to complete KYC verification.

For customers from certain countries, submitting only the front of a national ID card may not be sufficient because the back of the card may contain additional information required for identity verification. To ensure all necessary details are available for review, both the front and back of the national ID must be submitted together in a single KYC verification submission.

This guide explains when this requirement applies and how to submit the customer's documents correctly to avoid unnecessary verification delays.

Which customers are affected?

This requirement applies to customers using a national ID card issued in any of the following countries:

  • Algeria

  • Angola

  • Bangladesh

  • Benin

  • Cameroon

  • Central African Republic

  • China

  • Colombia

  • Côte d'Ivoire

  • Czechia

  • Ethiopia

  • France

  • Georgia

  • Germany

  • Ghana

  • Guatemala

  • Guinea

  • Haiti

  • Jordan

  • Kazakhstan

  • Mauritania

  • Mexico

  • Morocco

  • Mozambique

  • Philippines

  • Poland

  • Republic of the Congo

  • Senegal

  • Spain

  • Sri Lanka

  • Sudan

  • Togo

  • Trinidad and Tobago

  • Vietnam

  • Zimbabwe

Please note: This requirement applies specifically to national ID cards from the countries listed above. It does not apply to passports or driver's licences.

How to submit the customer's national ID

When completing KYC verification for virtual card creation, follow these steps:

  1. Capture both sides of the ID. Obtain a clear image of the front and back of the customer's national ID card.

  2. Check image quality. Ensure that the information on both sides is legible and that the images are not cropped or blurred.

  3. Submit both images together. Include the front and back in the same KYC verification submission. Do not submit the two sides in separate verification attempts.

  4. Check the verification result. Confirm that the customer's KYC verification is successful before proceeding with virtual card creation.

If you are integrating with Bitnob through the API, ensure your implementation submits the two document images in the appropriate fields supported by the integration.

What if the customer's verification fails?

If the required side of the national ID is missing, the verification may fail with the error DOCUMENT_PAGE_MISSING.

If this happens, submit a new verification request containing both sides of the national ID card together.

Submitting only the missing side in a separate request will not resolve the issue.

Does this affect other identity documents?

No. This additional document requirement applies only to national ID cards issued in the countries listed above.

Customers submitting passports or driver's licences are not affected by this specific requirement and should follow the applicable instructions for their chosen document type.
